River Wey in Farnham

Duncan Charman with a roach

I think I’ve become a hypochondriac this year, as after the cough comes an ear infection, so getting out during the early part of the week was impossible. I have been trying to put aside both Tuesday and Friday for fishing, however Tuesday had to be missed so feeling slightly better on Thursday and with the weather milder headed of with good friend Steve Ansell to the tiny river Wey in Farnham. After strolling through the meadows catching the odd chub, trout and dace we ended up right in the town centre. I headed straight for a swim l used to fish and noticed a couple of chub and a good trout holding up within, back in the summer. First drop in saw a swinger dace grab my maggot followed by another and for the next two hours quality dace after another came to hand or net. My best two weighed in at seven and eight ounces! Talk about quality free fishing but this was exceptional and great fun.

Friday the weather changed and although still unseasonably mild the overcast clouds of the previous day cleared into bright blue skies. Id promised to take dad perch fishing to Westhampnett, but try as we did from dawn to dusk not so much as a single bleep came to our rods.
