Korum's Lewis Kennedy got bit of a shock on a recent session on the River ribble.  His plan was to do a bit of stick float fishing for silver fish, mainly small roach and dace and the odd chub.

"I was fishing with light tackle and a small stick float down a size 20 to 4lb Korum CS Worm and Caster hook to nylon.  I was steadily catching roach to 6oz and small dace when I struck in to a small fish and 2 seconds later my rod went solid. My first thought was that I had snagged the bottom then, the bottom started to move!"explains Lewis

Lewis soon realised that a pike a had taken his small roach.

"After 15 minutes of playing the fish it surfaced, instantly i noticed that my small fish had come off and the size 20 hook was now in the pike's top lip. After few attempts of trying to net the pike in my 22inch folding spoon I knew it wasn’t going to fit, fortunately there were a couple of guys pike fishing upstream, so I shouted up and they came down with their big net. "

"As one of them went to scoop the pike it had one last head shake and cut my line but fortunately the angler was quick enough just to get it." recalls Lewis.

"My heart was pounding I could see she was a big girl. We lifted her onto the scales and settled on 21lb 12oz."
